About the event

The first EEP Well-being Conference is designed to equip parents and educators from across the EEP network and the wider community with practical tools to better support students’ well-being. Through expert-led sessions and student-led panel discussions, participants will gain actionable strategies to help children feel safe, confident, and supported both at school and at home.

The conference will feature keynote sessions by Sara Aziz, Founder & CEO of Safe Egypt, and Roba Gindy, Founder of TRIBE, who bring extensive experience working with students, families, and schools to strengthen mental health and emotional well-being.

Student-led panel discussions will offer a unique perspective, giving space to student voices to share their experiences, reflections, and insights on mental health, well-being, and the realities they navigate within their school communities.

Throughout the day, a series of workshops will be available, led by experienced educators and specialists from across the EEP network, including GEMS The British School Al Rehab (TBS), GEMS International School Cairo (GISC), Misr Language Schools (MLS), and Hayah International Academy. These sessions are designed to offer practical, hands-on tools and proven approaches that can be directly applied in real-life settings. Workshops are available at a discounted rate for all conference attendees.

The conference creates a space for meaningful collaboration between families and educators, empowering them with the knowledge and approaches needed to nurture students’ mental health, resilience, and overall development in today’s world.

Workshop Overview

In today’s educational landscape, educators are often the first line of emotional support for students while simultaneously managing academic demands, parental expectations, and safeguarding responsibilities. Over time, this emotional labor can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and blurred professional boundaries.

This interactive workshop explores how educators can continue to support student wellbeing without compromising their own. Grounded in practical strategies and reflective practice, the session will examine the emotional demands placed on educators and introduce sustainable tools for self-regulation, boundary-setting, and professional resilience.

Through live engagement activities, case discussions, guided reflection, and experiential regulation practices, participants will gain both insight and immediately applicable techniques.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify early signs of burnout and compassion fatigue in educational settings.
  • Recognize the difference between healthy empathy and emotional over-involvement.

The Hidden Cost of Short-Form Content: How Screens Are Reshaping Childhood, Attention, and Emotional Wellbeing

Location: GISC
Date: Sat 25th April
Timing: 1:30 – 3:30
Instructor: Hoda Said

Note:

Workshop Overview

Today’s children are the first generation in history to grow up with constant access to smartphones, social media, and algorithm-driven digital content. At the same time, educators and parents are reporting rising levels of anxiety, reduced attention spans, and increasing emotional dysregulation among young people—leading researchers to describe today’s youth as “The Anxious Generation” (Haidt, 2024).

Central to this discussion is the cultural shift from a play-based childhood to a phone-based childhood, where children’s developmental experiences are increasingly mediated through screens.

This workshop explores the hidden psychological and developmental costs of short-form digital environments, including platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts. These platforms are designed to deliver rapid, highly stimulating bursts of content that reward constant novelty and fast shifts in attention. Drawing on research from cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and educational practice, the session will examine how these digital patterns can influence attention, working memory, emotional regulation, and language development.

The session will also connect these findings to trends increasingly observed in classrooms, including distractibility, reduced sustained attention, and difficulties managing emotions during learning tasks. By linking current research with real classroom observations, the workshop will provide participants with a clearer understanding of how digital habits are shaping student wellbeing.

Participants will leave with practical strategies to help children rebuild attention stamina, develop healthier relationships with technology, and protect emotional wellbeing in an increasingly digital world.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of “The Anxious Generation” and the shift from play-based to screen-based childhood.
  • Recognize the impact of short-form digital content on attention, memory, and emotional regulation.
  • Identify the effects of excessive screen exposure on children’s wellbeing and development.
  • Understand how algorithm-driven platforms are designed to capture and sustain attention.
  • Recognize the classroom challenges linked to increased digital exposure.
  • Explore practical strategies to support healthier digital habits and rebuild attention stamina.

Raising Digitally Smart Kids: A Parent Workshop

Location: GISC
Date: Sat 25th April
Timing: 1:30 – 3:30
Instructor: Hebba Haroun

Note:

EEP network: Exclusively Free | External School: 1,500 EGP 1,000 EGP Conference Rate

Workshop Overview

Our children are growing up in a digital world where platforms like YouTube, Roblox, gaming apps, social media, and AI tools are part of everyday life. In some countries or schools, certain platforms are blocked for safety reasons. However, many children know how to bypass these restrictions using VPNs.

This workshop is not about banning technology. It is about understanding it. We will explore why some platforms are restricted, what risks exist online, and how parents can guide their children to use technology responsibly, even when no one is watching.

If children are smart enough to bypass restrictions, they are smart enough to learn responsibility. Digital citizenship starts at home, and together we can help children become safe, balanced, and respectful digital users.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand common online risks children may face on digital platforms.
  • Recognize how children may bypass online restrictions and how to respond effectively.
  • Learn how to discuss digital responsibility with children in a supportive way.
  • Identify signs of unsafe or unhealthy online behaviour.
  • Apply simple family guidelines for screen time, privacy, and responsible technology use.
